"Revenge is a dish best served hot!

Phaedra, a fury, is bound to make Lieutenant Luke Lazaros atone for his supposed crime, but her usual method of inflicting pain doesn’t work very well on a phoenix with the power to be reborn every time he dies. However, each rebirth leaves him with an overwhelming need for sex. Phaedra’s new plan: to drive Luke mad with desire.

But Phaedra has never touched anyone - even herself - except to cause pain. She’s an innocent when it comes to pleasure…but Luke isn’t. His touch is a revelation, arousing a passion in Phaedra that is as delicious as it is terrifying. For no matter how much she wants Luke, giving herself to a man risks awakening her goddess’s wrath." ~Goodreads

This book begins after Phaedra has been killing Luke for months now, and finally she begins to think there has to be another way as Luke just keeps coming back to life. What awakes her desire - an emotion she is forbidden to feel by Athena herself - is Luke's desire to have sex after he's reborn, and the feeling doesn't let up, it only intensifies. I liked this novella, it was the perfect length at 93 pages to have a sufficient emotional build-up for both characters to make reading this story a joy!

Phaedra's innocence to pleasure was steamy to read, and when combined with Luke's uncontrollable need for sex - whoa talk about sizzling hot temptation! But what I loved about Phaedra was her conflict, she knew she wasn't supposed to feel anything and least of all pleasure from the sinner's touch - but she did and as she tries to come to grips with it, she has to come to grips with the fact that she might not be able to blindly follow Athena's orders - any more than Luke blindly followed his and ended up a traitor.

Luke was just yummy, he was kneaded with need and lust and frustration and he kept getting more and more attracted to Pheadre though she had killed him multiple times before - somehow he begun to see too that she didn't want to cause him pain, that she was doing what she though was right.

I liked The Fever and The Fury a lot! It was a great read, that gave something to think about - about blindly following orders, blindly doing what others say is right. Sometimes happiness takes a controversial route to travel, unorthodox decisions to make and in this book doing what's right despite what it would cost you.
