REVIEW - THOSE VIOLET EYES

"Win gets a cooks position at his uncle Gus' saloon and meets a girl with violet eyes, attitude a mile long and a wicked tongue to top it all off. But it seems there is more to Evie than just a mean streak she has a big heart and kindness he didn't expect which is exactly why he starts to fall for her - but who could love an amputee and why should anyone even have to try?"

Evie is sick and tired of taking care of her brother while he drinks and gambles with the money her parents left him in their will, while she does both their chores on the ranch he owns. So when "The Lonesome Steer" honky tonk gets a cook she won't refuse the waitressing job to grow her little secret cash stash to get the hell out of town.

It's been a year since Win lost part of his leg in road side bomb in Iraq, the loss of his leg and his team casts demons and nightmares upon him but he's determined to heal and start anew. So he gets a cooks position at his uncle Gus' saloon and meets a girl with violet eyes, attitude a mile long and a wicked tongue to top it all off. But it seems there is more to Evie than just a mean streak she has a big heart and kindness he didn't expect which is exactly why he starts to fall for her - but who could love an amputee and why should anyone even have to try?

Having never experienced a kind man romantically Evie is struck by Win's gentlemanly behavior, his protective attitude and possessive comments, which is why she has no idea wither to be pissed off ( which is what she knows best ) or smitten ( which is a new acquaintance ). But there is only so long that you can fight and deny your feelings before it all boils over and begins with one hot kiss...

Evie rolled her eyes and stepped behind him, tapping him on the back. The metal strainer clattered in the sink and a blur of motion barely registered before steely hands gripped her forearms. Oh my God! In a flurry of movement, he snatched her off the floor and backed her against the stainless steel counter. Cold wet hands vised her arms. Her eyes snapped wide and the air whooshed from her lungs when his body slammed into hers.
Win’s eyes were narrowed, his breathing rapid through a clenched jaw, and a vein bulged in his forehead. "Don’t do that."
The man was every inch the warrior, every hard tensed inch. He held her mid-air, so close they were nearly eyeball to eyeball. As his gaze traveled over her face and awareness evidently crept in as to the sex of his attacker, several inches of his frame hardened even more.
           Evie swallowed. Oh, good Lord.
He glared and his nostrils flared.
"I… I'm sorry, Win. I called your name, but… but you didn't answer. I was only trying to get your attention." Her lips twitched at the humor in the situation - hadn't Keira told her the man lost part of his hearing? Evidently she’d startled him. Poor soul. She felt a portion of herself return. A portion she’d hidden for so long; that light-hearted part of her soul that teased and cajoled. "Honest, I wasn’t trying to attack you." She placed an open palm on his defined pecs and patted. "You’re safe with me, big guy." Just to rattle him some more, she winked.
Win's hazel eyes flashed for a second, then he slowly leaned in and whispered in her ear, "You’re not safe with me."

The Wild Rose Press always comes out with the best contemporary western romance! And as I do love my cowboy romance - it was so easy to fall in love with Those Violet Eyes! All that yummy southern twang, a hot, muscled, ex-marine cowboy and spunky heroine with a wicked tongue and big heart make for such an superb romance!

Davis sure knows how to write a novel with romance in all the right places, emotions of fear and doubt on both leading characters and have us readers laugh out loud at the funny parts - the black thong scene comes to mind. ;) Davis has written a story that's engaging, charming, romantic, sexy and all kinds of addictive! I simply had to read it cover to cover in one sitting yesterday morning and I was left in tears at the end of it. I'm not gonna lie I so want to know what happens with the rest of their lives - Ms. Davis pretty please write a short story just to let me out of my misery! ;)

I absolutely loved Evie from the beginning, she was in class of her own climbing into her truck through the window after calling Win a Biker Don Juan and giving him a tongue slashing for staring into her eyes in the barking lot of The Lonesome Steer. I love heroines with a mean streak and a big heart, I love them because they fight any kind of romantic feelings whilst falling in love with our well built, grinning ear to ear heroes who can see through the tough act.

And of course you cannot stop yourself from falling for Win, a wounded hero with spouts of PTSD ( post-traumatic stress disorder ), moods swings and doubts about any future with a woman due to part of his leg having been amputated after the bombing in Iraq. The vulnerability Win has about all his messed up symptoms and doubts makes his shining moments so much more intense, his protective side when Evie is harassed in the bar or fixing something for her - it just makes girls all gooey inside. And when all that comes in a 6'4, hazel eyed, muscled, fit, package who can say no to that!? Well Evie gives it a good go. ;)

The romance was so addictively yummy! I loved the verbal banter, the fiery stares, the tongue slashings and the oh so hot can't-keep-my-hands-off moments! That's the mix that makes me so happy, I love it when a girl puts the brakes on, or at least gives the firm no a good go but can't help but give in. Just my kind of story line! But there is more than that to Those Violet Eyes, I loved how Win kept telling himself to take distance, keep away but he still flirts like he can't help it and protects her and helps her, mixed messages dude. ;)

If you wanna read a funny, makes you all giddy kind of romance with one hot cowboy with issues and one fierce heroine with a molten gooey core then this contemporary cowboy romance is for you! With $3.99 too it's so sold!

BOOK SPOTLIGHT - REDEMPTION WITH A GIVEAWAY

"Following a worldwide pandemic whose vaccine left human blood deadly to vampires, the vampire community is on the verge of starvation and panic. Some have fanned into rural areas, where the vaccine was less prevalent, and are taking unsuspecting humans as blood slaves. Others are simply starving, which for a vampire is worse than death—a raging hunger in a creature too weak to feed.

Immune to these struggles—at first—is Penton, a tiny community in rural Chambers County, Alabama, an abandoned cotton mill town that has been repopulated by charismatic vampire Aidan Murphy, his scathe of 50 vampires, and their willingly bonded humans. Aidan has recruited his people carefully, believing in a peaceful community where the humans are respected and the vampires retain a bit of their humanity.

But an unresolved family feud and the paranoia of the Vampire Tribunal descend on Penton in the form of Aidan’s brother, Owen Murphy. Owen has been issued a death warrant that can only be commuted if he destroys Penton—and Aidan, against whom he’s held a grudge since both were turned vampire in 17th-century Ireland.  Owen begins a systematic attack on the town, first killing its doctor, then attacking one of Aidan’s own human familiars

To protect his people, Aidan is forced to go against his principles and kidnap an unvaccinated human doctor—and finds himself falling in love for the first time since the death of his wife in Ireland centuries ago.

Dr. Krystal Harris, forced into a world she never knew existed, must face up to her own abusive past to learn if the feelings she’s developing for her kidnapper are real—or just a warped, supernatural kind of Stockholm Syndrome in which she’s allowing herself to become a victim yet again."

Susannah Sandlin’s REDEMPTION is the first in the Penton Legacy series. Book two, ABSOLUTION, will be out September 18, and book three, OMEGA, on December 18.

REVIEW - A GIFT OF THE DARKEST MAGIC

"When her sister tells her she knows a way to save Matt, but it involves visiting a local club run by vampires, Clarissa is outraged that her sister would believe something so insane."

"Would you be willing to betray the person you love in order to save their life?

Clarissa's husband Matt is dying of cancer. They've tried everything that medicine has to offer, both traditional and experimental, and nothing's worked. Clarissa spends her days in the hospital, watching the man she loves slip closer and closer to certain death.

When her sister tells her she knows a way to save Matt, but it involves visiting a local club run by vampires, Clarissa is outraged that her sister would believe something so insane. But then she learns the truth.

Braden, the sexy and mysterious vampire who runs the club, does indeed have the means to save Matt, but he demands a high payment in return. He doesn't want money, her blood, or even her life...he wants something she never expected. Clarissa has a choice—spend twenty-four hours in Braden's bed or let her husband die.

But what she never foresaw was how much more the vampire would truly want after he'd given her the gift of the darkest magic." ~From Goodreads

Content Warning: infidelity, light bondage, anal sex, and rough sex

The story begins with Clarissa mourning her husband who's at the end stages of terminable cancer and grows to a story of what would you do to save your husbands life and is infidelity there as well? Though the story as an idea is good and could easily be very hot - it didn't quite manage to do it for me and I realized the reason for that were Clarissa's reactions to what happened around her, to her.

Clarissa's character was a contradiction, she was the caring concerned wife when she was at her husband's death bed, and surprisingly spunky and argumentative when with her sister and the master vampire - it left me feeling 'where did that come from'? Which caused me to not  be able to be focused and immersed in the story. Hence the low star rating.

The romance wasn't really a romance it was sex with a vamp under certain terms and tender feelings for her husband. It picked up towards the end of the novella and the ending I though was very interesting... a cool end for the story.

All in all it was an okay novella, and had a good amount of sexy action. :)

GUEST BLOG: BARS, SEX AND SEDUCTION

Bars, Sex and Seduction
~Why people hook up in bars~

I never really thought about it before, but bars are the perfect place to seduce someone. The setting can be very romantic with the dim lighting, the music and the choice of drink a person may choose to lower their inhibitions. Lounges are wine bars are the perfect place to get in the mood, but bars with cover bands or sport bars with televisions can also create a certain type of atmosphere where hanky-panky between a couple, or say a threesome can also work.

I always loved the idea of the show Cheers. Where better to be romanced than a place where everyone knows your name and the staff and patrons are everyone’s friends? A person is more open to being romances, seduced or even for a hook up if they trust that person they’ll drink with and talk with over the course of a night or see each week.

With Alana’s Surrender, I wanted to create a story that takes place at a friendly hometown bar called Sisco’s. My three main characters have known each other for years, so the idea these three would be willing to hook up with one another or open to being seduced would make more sense. A sudden, one night stand type of scenario would have worked, but what if say the owner of the bar, his good friend and bartender and the lead singer of a cover band suddenly gave into their passions for one another after years of keeping it a secret?

I’ve heard so many stories from friends and family of some sexual escapades they may witnessed or experience at a bar. A few of these stories helped me come up with the idea for Alana’s Surrender and my own bar setting. There’s so many endless possibilities an author can do with the people who work or go to the bar to listen to some music or just want to relax after a long day and have a few drinks. Also the bartender isn’t just skilled with his drinking making, but in other ways, if you know what I mean.

So, the next time you’re enjoying a beer, a glass of wine or a soda at your local bar, just imagine what could happen behind the bar or in the backroom after last call. I can bet you there’s been some interesting hanky-panky going on, and I’m not talking about the name of a special drink either.

Thanks KT for coming over to For The Love of Reading
and giving us something to think about next time we go out for a drink. ;)

Happy hump day people!

BLIND HEAT - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

"Marcus is anything but an ordinary Joe. Even if humans don’t know he is a shifter and millennial being, he’s the sort of man women notice. A night of passion spent with Marcus is a night any female, human or Pantherian, won’t forget."

"Allie is determined to build an ordinary life. To survive she needs to be the sort of woman no one notices. She has a generic job, lives in a generic apartment, and thinks maybe one day she’ll find an ordinary Joe who wants an average Jane sort of woman.

Marcus is anything but an ordinary Joe. Even if humans don’t know he is a shifter and millennial being, he’s the sort of man women notice. A night of passion spent with Marcus is a night any female, human or Pantherian, won’t forget.

But Allie does forget. She repeatedly fails to recognize him even after an intense sexual encounter. Marcus isn't satisfied until he discovers the source of her problem—face blindness, a genetic disorder with no cure. Marcus decides to use erotic rituals to teach Allie to see with more than her eyes. What he doesn't count on is that she will see past the man and recognize the beast within." ~From Goodreads

The story in Blind Heat is very interesting, we have Allie with all her coping mechanisms for face blindness and Marcus, a shape-shifting Pantherian, who is trying find out what she did with something in his protection - as he figures out why she keeps snuffing him out he's more determined than ever to make her remember him, trust him.

Allie was likable even with her disability that could have easily been written in a boring way - but I really did enjoy reading her thinking process and how she combated her face blindness. Marcus being the spiritual leader of his people on Pantheria sure likes to get down and dirty, which kinda doesn't spell spiritual leader to me, but then again my idea of spiritual leader might not be the norm ( think Buddha here ) - as hot as Marcus was and as skilled as he was in seduction there were parts that didn't sync with me. But really I imagine they wouldn't trouble anyone else but me. ;)

The romance sure was steamy! I liked the sexual suspense and denial before things really got hot and heavy - I'm a firm believer in building to amazing, hot as hell emotionally invested roll in the hay and Blind Heat sure walked a well balanced line on that! Yummy! Ellora's Cave sure knows how to pick good erotic romance authors and Nara Malone is one of them!

"With parents who own a Vegas strip club, elementary school teacher Sara Piermont has always steered clear of kinky. Now she's ready to sow her own wild oats and give in to the sexual fantasies taunting her. Her cousin's bachelorette weekend at an all-inclusive dude ranch seems the perfect place to let her hair down. And Dane Dumen is the rugged cowboy she has set her sights on for a weekend of uninhibited passion.

Dane loves to walk on the wild side, and sexy Sarah is the perfect muse for a fantasy weekend filled with restraints and other naughty things. Though he's never stepped over the line between a fling and commitment, Sarah proves to be a lure he can't resist. Dane quickly finds he's playing with fire and has to decide...rein in his heart or risk a permanent brand." ~From Goodreads

Great continuations to the Dume Ranch novella series! Dane's Restraint tells of two people looking for a no strings attach wild weekend of kinky sex only to find developing stronger feelings for each other among the romps in the bed.

The romance in Dane's Restraint was sizzling, we get a girl trying out her wild side and a too hot to handle Cowboy with a taste for domination in the bedroom, combining these two creates hot chemistry that easily fills the 94 pages of this erotic cowboy romance! Friends of novellas with the spice of restraints, massage oils and vibrators will take a liking to this!

Dane was a perfect cowboy hero in the story, starting out just looking for some fun for the weekend - but ending up showing Sara quite the good time in the cabin and starting to fall for her despite his protests. And Sara coming from a sexually free-minded family, a side she had suppressed before only to embrace during the bachelorette party was a nice storyline for her, from her adult toy collection to her desire for a wild weekend!

I like how all four of these novellas happen at the same time, just with four different couples, which means you can read these out of order and enjoy all the saucy benefits without spoilers!

"Will one night with an older woman change everything?

After finding the love of his life in bed with someone else, twenty-six-year-old Seth Reynolds wanted a fresh start and found it in Jamaica. Being a bartender at one of the island’s exclusive resorts has its perks… not the least of them being a very sexy, older woman: Sylvia Radcliff. While she’s determined to celebrate her forty-fifth birthday, Seth is equally determined to seduce the most enchanting woman he’s ever met." ~From Goodreads

Super short story of a young man having one tangled sheets weekend that changes his life.

The plot is very simple indeed, basically it feels like Ryan is telling this as story to his mates with all the x-rated fun thrown in the mix. It's not really romantic, expect it ends happily - romantically. It's way too short for my liking - I think it should have been at the heat level it was but longer or the length it was but more erotica. I had a hard time figuring out word count and steaminess ratio. That said, it was hot, but without the story building to it it didn't really do it for me.

I've been talking about what didn't work, but even with all those this short story was good, it had a strapping young man falling for a woman who was much older than him. It's hard to put a love story in 12 pages for sure, but Tropical Cougar did manage to have a warm tone to it and I found it interesting the story was solely from Ryan's point of view.

I'll just say it one more time. ;) I wanted it to be longer, to delve into the emotions of both of them to have been more my alley.

Mia's cop-lover-on-call Rogan has decided to bring Mia's threesome fantasy to life, so he invites his friend Jeff, also an officer, to join them.

Now he just has to convince Mia to take her fantasy to reality and enjoy the benefits of two cops, control and a hot ménage a trois.

Mia's fascination with one cop and his control makes her heart race - the promise of two hard and rugged men spikes her libido but also makes her nervous, what would two police officers equal to one girl with cop fetish?

This one is stand alone, bun intended ;) , no need to read Mia's Cop Craving before hand though I do recommend that to all the girls with cop fantasies. Mallory is an erotica wiz! Her text is three dimensional, not too rough or simple - she seems to have the perfect balance of plot, sex and dialogue that is realistic and sizzling hot!

I enjoyed reading another one of Mia's fantasies - she's uninhibited, smart and daring. Rogan has that real cop feel, no bullshit, no yuppie charm just kinda rough, rugged and in control which translates to so sexy! The new addition to this is Jeff, a cop as well but a side character that brings the added hot factor but doesn't challenge the blossoming romance between Mia and Rogan.

Do not get me wrong, it's not a romance story, this is very much erotica but Mia and Rogan who hooked up just for some fun seem to be developing their feelings for each other... if Mia's Cop Craving 3 comes out I'll be excited to read if they will develop the relationship as well as what kind kink they come up with. ;)

GUEST BLOG: WRITING THE WANNABE VAMPIRE

( Welcome to Alex Taylor, the author of The Wannabe Vampire, a lighthearted urban fantasy novel of a modern vampire and his stalker to For The Love of Reading! [ Don't miss out on the novel being FREE today ] on Amazon.com! So-- without further ado, here's Alex Taylor! )

Now that The Wannabe Vampire is available for Kindle, one of the more common questions I'm asked is, "How did you get the idea of writing a vampire book?"

The truth is, the idea of a vampire tale has been with me as far back as elementary school.  Back then, I played supernatural make-believe games involving witches, ghosts and vampires with my two best friends.  I was, of course, always the vampire.

Vampire characters managed to stay with me throughout my youth.  In high school, one of my favorite movies was Love at First Bite, a comedy film starring George Hamilton.  My favorite novel was The Vampire Tapestry, written by Suzy McKee Charnas.  By the time I went college, I'd decided to write my own vampire tale.  I can remember spending many hours discussing my character with a college friend.

Unfortunately, my plans for writing a vampire novel in college were derailed by several things.  By the time I'd settled on the idea, my college career was almost over.  I was focused on graduation, preparing for a move, finding a job, and spending as much time as possible canoodling with a long-distance love interest.  Although I did start a novel about a vampire named Michael ( which I wrote on a 1930's Underwood typewriter ) I never finished.  I had a general idea about the character, but I didn't have much of a story to put him in.  My life got in the way, and I never got more than maybe 25 pages of the manuscript completed.

It wasn't until earlier this year that all these ideas began to solidify in my mind.  My spouse and I had recently rediscovered Dracula: The Series, a wonderful 1990's television program filmed in Luxembourg that starred Geordie Johnson in the title role.  Between that and the release of Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, I once again had vampires very much on the brain.

What finally pushed me over the edge to start writing was that my spouse resumed nagging me to write a book.  It was something we'd talked about off and on for years, but I'd never done anything about it.  Writing wasn't something new to me, as I'd written a number of short stories in high school, I'd kept a journal for a significant portion of my life, and I'd run a now-defunct blog for six years.  It seemed I was at a time in my life where everything fell into place.  I grabbed a stack of index cards, outlined my plot, and started writing.  In 25 days, the first draft of The Wannabe Vampire was complete.

The inspiration for my vampire, Michael Alexander, came from a great many places.  Certainly the idea of a living vampire, as opposed to a supernatural one, came from Weyland in The Vampire Tapestry.  Although Michael is very much a living being, as opposed to being undead, he still retains many of the traditional vampiric traits that Weyland did not possess, such as fangs and a sensitivity to sunlight.

In the end, I discovered that I was writing about the kind of vampire I'd like to meet.  Just like everyone, Michael isn't perfect.  He tries to quietly make his way in a sometimes-confusing modern world, while his life is turned upside-down by both a ghost-obsessed stalker and the girl who moves in next door.  He is sensitive, sweet, and quirky, yet he still is very much a vampire trying to make his place in the world.
I hope you'll enjoy reading about him as much as I enjoyed writing about him.

The Wannabe Vampire will be available FREE on Amazon

Will two kids, one bastard ex-husband, and Josh’s juggernaut career mean the end of their affair? Or can Claire find her happy ending after all." ~From Goodreads

I apologize before hand that for the shortness of this review - I hurt my back and sitting by the computer is quite painful.

Hollywood Ever After is a beautiful love story of a woman with an abuse past, blooming while spending a birthday weekend in Hollywood with her producer friend and meeting a striking movie heartthrob who ends up being more down to earth than the norm glitz of Hollywood.

The plot was good, contemporary romance with a little suspense twist. The twist being Claire's abusive and controlling ex-husband who doesn't take liking to Claire looking happy and dating Josh and harassing her for it. Also I usually don't like kids in a love story but I actually really liked Claire's kids and how Josh was with them - they weren't the source of drama and I loved it!

The romance was beautiful, Josh and Claire were a great match and even though they started with a bang the story turned sweet and I loved the whole journey they went through to telling each other they loved one another to the ex messing with things. But I loved how secure Josh was and wasn't intimidated by Claire's ex or her past - absolutely loved it.

If it hadn't been for the papz and the premieres totally heartthrob Josh would have been like any other decent guy falling in love. I absolutely love these domestic abuse survivor stories, not so much the victim stories but when the woman is a survivor and meets a really great guy I think makes for a amazing novel.

Can't wait to read Hollywood Holiday the Book Two in the Red Carpet Series coming in  December 2012!

Why do we fantasize about Hollywood Heartthrobs through novels?

This is a great question! Thanks for giving me the chance to answer it.

Now I’ll admit that my answer might not be the norm. I grew up in a very pro-Hollywood family. Yes, we had Oscar parties, went to see all the nominated movies, watched Entertainment Tonight, and subscribed to all the celebrity magazines.

My first crushes were movie stars: Mel Gibson ( Year of Living Dangerously ), Christopher Reeve ( Somewhere in Time ), and River Phoenix ( anything he was in… ). When I read ( which was and is all the time ) I tend to assign actors and actresses with actors – if I like the book. Because book heroes are just as dreamy as Hollywood heart throbs so combining them is the BEST THING EVER.

Why do we do romanticize these guys? I think we see Hollywood Heart throbs in a very positive and glamorous light. We don’t know them, but we think we do. Or rather, we wish we did. Maybe not the real them, but the way we see them. You know, these glorious men are more manly, romantic, generous, and strong than men we know – right? Probably not, but it’s sure nice to think so.

I did, of course, ‘cast’ Josh as a pretty yummy heart throb. I wonder if you can figure out ‘who’ he is?

What a tease! ;)

Okay, I'll give it my go...
