"Devlin Ross, the Duke of Hereford, has long ago made a vow to himself to break the curse his father has cast upon him by mentally abuse him throughout his childhood by never marry or have a family of his own. But when he meets Lady Francesca Darling, his best friend's merry niece, he can't help himself - he must have her.

Fanny, who fell in love with Devlin when she was a mere five years old in that obnoxious, stalking way only a child can, didn't hesitate when it came to her feelings towards him. She had loved him dearly for thirteen years and would not let her interfering relatives stand in the way between her and lifelong happiness.

But was she stubborn enough to make him realize exactly how simple-minded he was when it came to fulfilling the vow he once made?"  ~ From Goodreads

I agreed to review this because the blurb/plot seemed interesting, but I seemed to have the same problems as couple of other readers had. Where the premise is intriguing and the writing itself good the language used is at times too modern or the action too modern even though in old language. For example the family talks very weirdly amongst each others, too openly, too jokingly, too modernly, too sexually, the mother and father had a love match even though she'd very very flaky and annoying ( sorry, but the whining was too much ). It was multiple little things like these that didn't quite make sense that disrupted the flow of the story.

I didn't quite finish the book, as it was harder and harder to read on. I wanted to like this book, really did and while I enjoyed Wenn's story telling there were too many mistakes and mishaps period wise that made me sigh picking it up just to finish it, it was after all 368 pages. I think she'd be great writing contemporary romance.

As a cover designer I have to point out the cover. There could have been lot more going on, only showing her lower half with loads of room at the bottom is displeasing to the eye and the colors are way too muted. Look at any historical romance and you see bold color as the stories are often so demure.
